Due to new guidelines, your GP is no longer the first port of call for urine infections. Pharmacy First will provide new treatment pathways for patients with minor illnesses, for example uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women aged 16-65 years under Patient Group Directions (PGDs).
Patients have been able to access this service from 4th December 2017 at their local community pharmacy.
This will help to improve access for people requiring assessment and treatment for these conditions, reduce pressure on GP practices and the out-of-hours services and maximise the skills of the pharmacist.
You will need to attend the pharmacy to have your symptoms assessed in order to get the right advice, treatment or referral as appropriate. You should be aware there are some exceptions which can prevent your pharmacist from treating you and you may need to be referred to your GP.
